The mission of the MHS Chiefs Foundation is to complement the endeavors of MHS in developing, improving, promoting, and sustaining the enrichment and enhancement of educational opportunities and programs for all MHS students. As part of this goal, the Foundation is offering financial support to MHS Departments for programs and projects to improve student learning that are not otherwise funded by the FCBOE or other entities. We award grants of up to $500 for worthy projects. Grants must be submitted by the Department Chairs on behalf of their departments. Applications are approved and disbursed for use in the fourth nine weeks of the school year.
The profit from our first MHS Chiefs Foundation fundraiser - the ABCs of McIntosh - in Spring 2024 allowed us to provide two Department Grants to the MHS Art Department and the MHS Choral Department. Carisa Green, Art Dept Chair, accepts the grant from Foundation Board President Lisa Fine and said it will be used to buy purchasing printmaking materials and tools for next year's AP Drawing course. This is a media that is seldom used due to the cost. Mr Prouty, Choral Dept Chair, said the grant will be used to help offset the cost of a much-needed new stereo system in the chorus room
We awarded two Department Grants in 2025 to the Science Department and the Health/Physical Education Department. The Science Dept used the grant money for a collection of needed materials for use by Science Fair students throughout the entire department during science fair project season when materials must be self-funded by students and not county-provided. The Health/Physical Education Department used the grant money for a physical agility game that focuses on kicking and targeted leg use, with participants aiming to get small balls into holes similar to cornhole.
In Spring 2026, we awarded three Department Grants to World Language ($460) for 20 headsets that will help offset a shortage in the department; Mathematics ($500) for 5 portable vertical whiteboards for collaborative student use across all secondary mathematics classrooms, and Science ($240) for Hydroponics Growing System that allow STEM and Biology students to grow plants throughout the year.
